Big Business Blogs?
Filed in archive Business Blogging on July 7, 2006
The Business Edge is reporting that "Corporations as massive as McDonald's and General Motors are wading into the online "blogosphere" - with employees and even business-suited executives setting up their own weblogs as a way to nurture ties with their tech-savvy customers." By The Canadian Press - For Business Edge
Blogs first arrived in 1994 and Wikipedia asserts that "Justin Hall, who began eleven years of personal blogging in 1994 while a student at Swarthmore College, is generally recognized as one of the earliest bloggers."
So they are a little late to the party. Innovation, in business especially in the 'marcom' space does not typically come from large business. It's often small business owners who try and test new ideas in an attempt to gain a competitive edge.
Welcome aboard big business.

I am amazed how everyone is using social sites like Myspace and facebook to promote the businesses. Just the other day I saw a girl (22-years-old) talking about her experience with a Fortune 500 Company. She mentioned that she used www.strongbusinesscredit.com which I found out to be ineffective in her case. Some people have to realize that sites like that are for real owners, not social gatherings.

The Center for Media Research has released a study by Vertical Response that shows just where many of these ‘Main Street’ players are going with their online dollars. The big winners: e-mail and social media. With only 3.8% of small business folks NOT planning on using e-mail marketing and with social media carrying the perception of being free (which they so rudely discover it is far from free) this should make some in the banner and search crowd a little wary.
