CFIA Closing Bakeries?

CFIA Closing Bakeries?

Apparently, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is requiring that bakeries "register" their recipes with the CFIA and it can cost as much as $800 per recipe, yikes! I was able to confirm of the closing of one business in Ottawa.

…you have to "register" your recipes with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency at 800 dollars a pop. Eight hundred bucks to submit a recipe and get it approved. What the heck?

The CFIA is in the process of shutting down small "mom and pop" bakeries because they haven't complied with this outright theft. Or because their baked goods – that folks purchase – aren't standardized as far as weight goes. Via Ianism!

You can read a letter from Randy Hillier, now the President of the Ontario Landowners Association to Chuck Strahl about the bakery in Renfrew, Ontario.
