Taxes

Now the "Canadian music industry representatives are re-opening an old debate about MP3 players that could see the average price of the devices climb by as much as $75." Via The existentialism of iPods
So the Canadian Private Copying Collective is trying to make the argument that the artist needs to be paid, well they do get paid. Artists need to protect their work just like authors do.
Taxing an iPod is just like me asking the government to place a levy on every one of my books that gets sold because people share books so why shouldn't I get paid for the second, third person who reads the same book.
Better yet the levy should also apply to everyone of my books in the public library because we know for sure they get read by multiple people. That would be just silly.
So what is the difference between a book and a MP3 file?
