Production is very labour-intensive. It starts with going out to wrecking yards and cutting out the nylon seatbelts. The average car provides about two pounds of nylon belt, not including the buckles. Via Winnipeg Free Press
Apparently, Funk's son Trevor has always been into recycling and when he approached his mother about helping with the sewing of the bags she agreed if only to prove "...the venture would fail and then she would nag him into getting a real job. His plan worked, hers didn't."
A business recycling seat belts out of cars in a wrecking yard is not for everyone but this story shows what creativity, determination, and persistence can create. Way to go!
