A DUNS number is a unique nine-digit identifier, which is unique to your business. It is especially important for doing business nationally or internationally as it provides an easy way for people to make a credit decision when you apply for a business loan or credit.

Benefits of a DUNS® Number

A DUNS® number enhances the credibility of your business in the marketplace because it shows others that your business is credit worthy. Many major corporations and governments, including the U.S. Government require their suppliers and contractors to have a D-U-N-S® Number.

Getting Your DUNS® Number

There are three options:

• D-U-N-S® Number in 5 days - $59 CAD plus applicable taxes.
• D-U-N-S® Number with Credit Builder in 24 hours - $599 CAD plus applicable taxes.

Getting a D-U-N-S® Number alone will not establish a D&B credit file for your company. If you are requesting a D-U-N-S® Number because you need to show others that your business is credit worthy, you will probably need to establish a credit file. Use Your DUNS Number with a Corporate Profile

I recommend to my clients, especially those setting up a new business that they build a 'corporate profile' which provides all the basic information about your business (address, phone number etc.) plus additional information including:

• Brief description of your business including product lines sold and represented.
• Bank Name, address, phone number bank account number and contact name.
• Accountants name address, phone number, and main contact.
• Lawyers name address, phone number, and main contact.
• DUNS number.

When it is all put together you can use this when applying for credit. It provides suppliers and bankers with an introduction to your company and having a DUNS® number will increase your credibility.
