Young Calgarian Worried About Lack of Succession Plans

Calgarian blogger Everything Is Wrong states that "Most Canadian companies are unprepared for an abrupt change in leadership" – he cites a Globe and Mail article:

The looming retirement of the baby boomer bulge will leave some very senior corner offices vacant over the next decade. However, this study found that less than a third — 31 per cent — of Canadian companies had programs to identify and develop future leaders. Via Leaders not being groomed, study finds

As I wrote in Shrinking Baby Boomer Market: What You Need to Know the news is not all bad because some businesses and industries will actually grow as the aging boomers enter the market for goods and services to suit the lifestyle.

I am of the same mind as my buddy and author of Common Census states, "Baby boomers will be some pf the youngest old people" we have ever seen. I think the jury is still out – will there will be a mass Exodus? I am not 100% convinced. Yet there is already an impact being felt as many baby boomers exit their fat corporate jobs to start a second act business.

Yes there will be a turnover in leaders and new leaders are not being groomed often enough or as methodically as needed but the sky is not falling – we still have time – not a lot, but there still is time.

This is really a bad sign. In western countries, the business world is very competitive. Having a good leader is more important than making huge profits. The Canadian companies should give serious thoughts about grooming the future leaders.
